Frequently Asked Questions About Sailboat Cruises NYC

Before Sailing

What should I wear?
Sailing is an outdoor activity. Wear comfortable clothes appropriate for the weather. Don’t worry about fancy footwear. During warm weather, we’re a barefoot boat.

How many people are allowed onboard?
Each vessel is licensed for 6 passengers including children. For sailing groups larger than 6, a regatta with 2 sailboats is available for charter.

Are kids allowed?
Of course! Children of all ages are welcome. Please keep in mind that New York State requires children under 12 years of age to wear a life jacket on sail trips. USCG-approved life jackets are onboard for children of all ages.

Do I need to bring water?
No, bottled water is provided. Additional food and beverages can be purchased from the menu. Catering and open bar packages must be purchased at least 24 hours in advance. Beverages can be purchased in advance or onboard.

Can I bring my own food and drinks?
Yes, choose the BYO option during booking.

Will I get motion sickness?
It’s rare to feel discomfort during sailing if you don’t have a history of motion sickness. If you are prone to motion sickness, medication should be taken before boarding.

What if it rains?
Don’t worry, we’re all in the same boat — the captain doesn’t like sailing in rain, either. If rain or bad weather is in the forecast, the captain will keep an eye on the radar. If the captain determines rain can’t be avoided, then he will contact you to reschedule.

Parking
Valet parking is located next to the boat marina at Pier 59, another benefit of NYC boat tours Chelsea Piers.

If I’m early, where is a good meeting point for my friends and family?
The closest bar and lounge is the Chelsea Piers Water Hazard with a side door leading directly to the boat marina. The next closest gathering space is Pier 57 with a large food hall, community space, and rooftop park. Both the Water Hazard and Pier 57 overlook the boat marina.

If I’m late, will the boat wait for me?
Of course! This is one of the benefits of a private cruise on the Hudson River. You won’t miss the boat, but a shortened NYC sailboat cruise might miss out on some of the best sightseeing.
