America Turns 250. The Ships Are Coming. Be on the Water.

America’s 250th anniversary — the semiquicentennial — arrives once in a lifetime, and New York Harbor will mark it with the largest convergence of tall ships since the 1976 Bicentennial: more than 30 historic and traditional vessels from 20 nations, filling the same waters that have welcomed the world for centuries.

The Sail4th 250 festival runs July 3 through 8. Watching the tall ships parade from the shore means crowds, a fixed vantage point, and whatever partial view you can claim between strangers. Watching from the water means something else entirely: you move with the fleet, your captain positions your group where the sightlines are best, and the ships aren’t a spectacle you observe from afar — they’re the world you’re sailing through.

From the Hudson River to the East River to New York Harbor, your private sailboat puts you and your guests at the center of the most significant American maritime celebration in a generation.

What to Expect on Your Tall Ships Charter

On the Water vs. On the Shore

Watching gaff-rigged schooners, square-riggers, and traditional ketches sail past you from a fixed point on land is impressive. Watching them move up the Hudson River while you sail alongside — close enough to see the rigging details and the crew in the yards — is a completely different experience. Your captain tracks the fleet throughout the charter and positions the boat for the best views and photography at each stage of the parade.

The Boat Is Set Up for This

The shaded cockpit gives your group a comfortable base for the full charter. The sun pad forward offers a cushioned perch for unobstructed photography when the tall ships are nearby. The indoor cabin provides a cooler retreat between viewing moments, with table seating for six and a private bathroom. Champagne and catering packages are available to arrange in advance through our concierge team. The Bluetooth sound system is yours. For America’s 250th, that soundtrack deserves some thought.

Your Captain Knows This Harbor

The captain knows the New York Harbor like the back of his hand. During Sail4th 250 week, he tracks the official event schedule, USCG routing updates, and real-time conditions to position your group where the views are strongest. If the fleet adjusts course or timing shifts, you adjust with it — something no shoreside vantage point can offer.
